Holidaymakers from England who have had both doses of a coronavirus vaccine can “prove” their status abroad while using NHS app.

It is also likely to be used in Wales, but there is likely to be a four-week watch for it to be ready to go.

UK Health Minister Matt Hancock confirmed the 2009 week that individuals in England who travel abroad can make use of the NHS app to demonstrate they are fully vaccinated when the ban on overseas leisure travel is lifted on Monday (May 17).

The ban may also be lifted in Wales in the same date, but holidaymakers will have to obtain a paper-based certificate for approximately four weeks before being able to use the app.

Confirming that individuals in Wales will be able to make use of the NHS app when travelling abroad, First Minister Mark Drakeford told WalesOnline there'd be considered a delay or around a month before it could be used.

He asserted some intricacies needed to be sorted out, and added: "Meanwhile, a paper-based system shared with other parts of the UK, is going to be used.

"People can apply for this through Test Trace Protect teams and will also be given a certificate that will have a hallmark of all four nations, and can have security measures built into it"

The app happens to be accustomed to book medical appointments and order repeat prescriptions, and it is not the same as the Covid-19 app.

Mr Hancock told Sky News this week: “The certification, being able to show that you've had a jab, will probably be necessary for individuals to be able to travel.

“So, you want to make certain people can get use of that proof, not least to show governments of other countries that you've had the jab when they require that to be able to arrive.

“Israel's a good example. They've asserted they'll want evidence of you having two jabs that you should go to Israel whenever they open. They're on the green list of course."

Mr Drakeford announced today that international travel is set to resume from Monday, but with extra safeguards set up for people returning from some countries inside a bid to prevent coronavirus re-entering Wales.

Let us understand how you are feeling about the rules changes in the survey below:

A traffic light system, aligned with England and Scotland will be introduced, and countries will be considered green, amber and red.

This means people living in Wales can visit a small number of foreign destinations without the need to quarantine on their return. Mandatory quarantine for countries not on saving money list remains in place.

The paper-based vaccination status is going to be available from Monday, May 24, for people from Wales who may have had two doses of vaccination and need to urgently travel to a nation that requires Covid vaccination proof.

However, the Welsh Government is constantly on the advise people to only travel abroad for essential purposes.

Mr Drakeford said on Friday: ""Individuals will have the ability to travel abroad to green list countries and never have to quarantine on their return but the advice is, that unless you have to travel, then it is much safer to stay and enjoy everything that we have to offer in Wales.

"This is the year to consider your personal safety, and that of others. Enjoy Wales. It's a fantastic place with the much to offer."
